DO YOU PRAY BIG PRAYERS, OR DO YOU LIMIT YOUR PRAYERS BY WHAT YOU THINK IS POSSIBLE?
Great, righteous God in heaven, You alone control everything in the universe, and I know that nothing is too hard for You. Please help me to trust You in praying for the little things and the things that I think are impossible because You are always bigger than any problem I could ever have. In Jesus’ name I pray.Amen
Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven. “This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed Me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by My own name that I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand of the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed Me.” (Genesis 22:15-18)
God made this promise to Abraham in the land of Moriah right after Abraham demonstrated his obedience to God by his willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac.
Beloved, this is a huge promise. When God made this promise to Abraham, the only (acknowledged) immediate members of Abraham’s family were Abraham, Sarah and Isaac. Yet God promised that from this trio of people He would create a nation as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore.
The Bible is full of huge promises like that—or like when God promised Moses that He would provide enough meat for more than 600,000 people for a month!
The Bible is full of big, bold promises because we serve a big, bold, powerful God!
So, I’ve got a question for you.
If the Bible is full of huge promises because we serve a huge God, then why are many of our prayers so small?
Can you remember the biggest, boldest prayer you ever prayed? Have you ever prayed a BIG prayer?
God wants to show us His power, provision, faithfulness and might. He wants to show us that He is capable of impossible things, but in order to show us that, we need to ask Him for impossible things.
What was the last impossible thing you asked God for? I mean something so impossible that you’d never be able to accomplish it without His help.
Beloved, this isn’t theology, it’s just my opinion, but I think God makes giant promises because He wants to show us the standard for prayer. God makes and fulfills giant promises so we should expect Him to answer our most giant prayers.
I’m just learning to pray big, bold prayers. I only started praying these kinds of prayers when my wife got sick. I want to see God do incredible miracles like those recorded in the Bible.
It takes practice. Just work on praying the biggest prayers you can imagine right now. Don’t expect God to answer them overnight, but definitely expect Him to answer! Expect your imagination to grow as God answers your impossible prayers.
One more thing: Never stop praying. Press on through even when it’s frustrating and boring because no one wants to find out that they stopped praying for something one day too soon.
God just might answer your impossible prayer tomorrow, so don’t give up.
